Dr Andrew Russell
MBBS | FRACS
General, Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon
Dr Andrew Russell was originally a Brisbane boy, schooled at Nudgee College and obtained his medical degree at the University of Queensland Medical School. He undertook his advanced surgical training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, with a one-year rotation to Rockhampton Hospital (1986), where he met and subsequently married his beautiful wife, Frances. After completing his surgical training and becoming a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, he took a position at Basingstoke Hospital, Hampshire and moved to England with Frances and their 2yr old son Alex, to broaden and strengthen his surgical skills. They returned to Brisbane at the end of 1991, where he worked as Director of Surgery at the QE2 Jubilee Hospital, and was also a senior lecturer in Surgery for the University of Queensland. In 1993, for family and personal reasons (he loves the place!), they moved to Rockhampton. They raised their three children Alex, Dominic and Georgiana here and are heavily involved in their local community. He has built a large, busy private surgical practice at the Mater Hospital being a General Surgeon with extensive experience in Laparoscopic Surgery, Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and also Weight Loss Surgery, which he has practised since 1998. He prides himself on the care that he provides to his patients, helping them achieve the best possible outcome for their particular health issue. Away from Surgery, he loves family, cycling and golf!
Dr Andrew Russell’s practice is located at Suite 3, Mater Medical Centre, and operates out of Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton.
